Hassam Ali
A KPMG veteran with Big Four audit and accounting advisory experience working and leading publicly traded company audits (IT, consumer goods), $ billion-dollar manufacturing and construction firms (NTRs and Tax, Reviews), municipalities, and non-profits. Beyond public accounting, he brings hands-on operational experience managing month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes for startups. As an entrepreneur, he ran his own e-commerce store and served as a director for a large family-run QSR food chain. He brings a solid understanding of financial statements and how to leverage AI to create efficiencies in accounting functions.

Tanuj Talwar
A Big Four manager at KPMG who led publicly traded company audits in various different industries (IT, consumer goods), and specialized in GGFL tax engagements. He previously also managed a $600+ million offshore accounting operation in New York, managing an offshore full cycle accounting service and overseeing financial reporting and tax compliance for diverse client portfolios. Tanuj brings a process-driven approach to corporate tax strategy, CRA compliance, and building scalable financial systems.

Our Story
During our time at KPMG, we witnessed countless small and medium-sized businesses struggling to access the same caliber of financial expertise that Fortune 500 companies receive as a matter of course. These businesses deserved better than cookie-cutter bookkeeping services or junior-level support they needed Big Four quality without the Big Four price tag.
That’s when we realized we needed to build something different.
Our Founders’ Journey
Both HAT Accounting founders are KPMG veterans who bring complementary expertise to serve businesses across all industries. Our founding partner combines Big Four advisory experience with real-world entrepreneurship having helped non-profits implement public sector accounting standards, worked alongside fast-paced technology companies accessing cutting-edge accounting software and AI tools, and operated their own e-commerce store. Growing up supporting the family business, they developed an early passion for helping small businesses thrive without enterprise-level costs.
Our co-founder, an ex-Big Four manager, brings deep operational expertise from managing a $600+ million New York accounting firm’s complete outsourcing operations and overseeing large publicly traded company audits. This unique combination of advisory, technology, entrepreneurial, and management experience allows us to deliver sophisticated solutions that scale with your business.
